They came by car, by shuttle bus, by bike, on foot - any and every way possible to reach the town center on Saturday for the first Rosendale Street Festival in 15 years.
By mid-afternoon, up to 7,000 people had converged on Main Street, police estimated. More were expected Saturday night for the headline musical acts, and the festival resumes today.
Festival organizers predicted 25,000 people would attend by the time the festival ends tonight. Besides music, he festival features a variety of food boots.
Many who turned out Saturday were curious newcomers; others were veterans of the 1978-80 street festivals who came to find old friends and recapture the magic of years gone by.The veterans agreed this festival was tamer than its predecessors. But being older and wiser, they weren't complaining.
